NELSON'S FINAL DEPARTURE FROM PORTSMOUTH
At a quarter before six o'clock on Saturday morning, Lord Nelson arrived at the George Inn Portsmouth, from London. As soon as his arrival was known, the populace assembled about the inn and rent the air with their huzzas. The bells also rang a merry peal. Visiting the dock-yard Nelson viewed his old ship, the Agamemnon, before taking the back-door through Admiral Montagu's house to avoid the crowd, leaving South Sea beach by boat to the Victory. On Sunday the Victory sailed -- 16cm. of column space, back page col 4 [Reference to Calder's action front page col 1] in a complete issue of THE ENGLISH CHRONICLE (LONDON) dated 17 September 1805; Also Final Instructions -- TWO GREAT HERO'S MEET, at 3 o'clock Lord Nelson and Sir Sidney Smith attended at the office.
