Hooper Esq, Admiralty Overseer LAUNCHED H.M.S, PHOENIX Torpedo Boat Destroyer from the works of Messrs Vickers Ltd Barrow IN Furness OCT 9th 1911, with wooden handle and contained within plush lined case for wall mounting. Overall measurements -- 7½ x 17in. (19 x 43cm.)

Lot Essay

H.M.S. Phoenix, one of the 'Acheron' class of torpedo boat destroyers, held the distiction of being the only R.N. vessel to founder at the hands of the Austrian Navy in World War I: she was sunk by a torpedo fired by the Austrian submarine S/M U.XXVII in the Adriatic on 15th May 1918 whilst on patrol.
