Lot Essay

The S.S. Namur (1906-1917) served on the "intermediate" London -- Far Eastern service and was returning from Shanghai to London on the 29th October 1917 with a general cargo when she was torpedoed by the German submarine, U.35, fifty-five miles from Gibraltar; she sank within forty minutes; The sailing vessel Zenobia (1815-1871) was launched in 1815 and acquired by P & O in 1852 for use as a coal hulk and made her only voyage on behalf of the company between 16.9.52 and 5.3.53 as recorded in the log here offered. She was sold from the company in 1871 for a profit of £1,800, after which she disappears from record
