A 19TH CENTURY SCRIMSHAW DECORATED WALRUS TUSK
fully incised, the upper half with foliage surrounding a well-executed portrait of a sailor's sweetheart wearing a hat and with a church and trees in the background; the lower half depicting the American whaler AMARET with the ship's boat harpooning a whale, the two scenes linked by a 'love heart' pierced with two arrows with the letters C. VI either side, the work terminating with a crossed band just over the root cavity -- 10in. (25.5cm.) high
