AN UNUSUAL LATE 18TH CENTURY FRENCH BRASS DOUBLE TELESCOPE GRAPHOMETER & THEODOLITE
adapted from a graphometer signed by Vincard....AParis, the glazed and silvered compass with blued-steel needle, engraved wind rose with eight initialled points, and graduated in degrees 0-360 around the perimeter, the frame with engraved scroll supports and graduated in degrees 0-180 in both directions, the alidade with sights removed and mounted with a pierced shapped support to a compass joint-mounted telescope (mounting covers part of the original signature) the reverse of the base line with a second telescope mounted via a compass joint, the reverse of the compass box with a staff mounting with tangent screw and fine screw adjustment and ball and socket joint with butterfly screw clamp, and a second (replacement) knurled screw clamp for the staff -- 12½in. (31.8cm.) wide
