A FINE EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE AND WOOD MODEL OF A 120-GUN FIRST RATE SHIP-OF-THE-LINE
the bound masts with yards and stun's'l booms, standing and running rigging with blocks, finley carved figurehead of a Roman warrior wielding a sword, boomkins, head rails, catheads, metal anchors with bound bone stocks, main rail, belaying rails, capstan, stove pipes, belfry with bell, well-deck with ballustrade, gratings and ship's boat suspended over, hammock racks, water barrels, companionways, poop deck, deck lights, metal deck cannons in stepped bone carriages, stern davits with boat and other details. The planked and pinned hull with ebony main wale, chain plates and deadeyes, fine carving to bow and stern and quarter galleries, and rudder, is mounted on two carved bone supports and secured by forward tackle to baleen inlaid bone base with disc feet. Measurements overall -- 20 x 27in. (51 x 68.5cm.)
