Further details
On 13th and 14th March, 1762 the Spanish frigate La Ventura attacked and was taken by the British frigate Fowey, commanded by Joseph Mead, Esq. The engagement began off Cape Tiberone and lasted for about an hour and a half when both ships had to sheer off in order to repair their damage. At ten o'clock that evening Captain Mead bore down again on the Ventura and an action ensued, but due to nightfall he was unable to bring the conflict to a satisfactory conclusion. The next morning the engagement was renewed for a third time and at about eight o'clock the Ventura struck her colours having been reduced to a complete wreck. She was then towed into Port Royal Harbour, Jamaica by the Fowey.
