The schooner-rigged auxiliary screw steamer Edward Williams was built by Denton, Gray & Co. at West Hartlepool in 1871. Registered at 712 tons gross (455 net), she measured 194 feet in length with a 29 foot beam and was engined by Richardson's, also of Hartlepool. Still trading in the early years of the twentieth century, after several changes of ownership, she disappears from record by 1914, presumably scrapped.
