An Afternoon Reverie

As with Nightingale's other works, this picture exhibits all the details of a languid aestheticism. A japanese umbrella, a discarded love-letter, and a boat adrift on a lily pond, all evoke a world of reverie, especially as the door to the wild-wood beyond is left half open.
