A Steiff centre-seam teddy bear
with white mohair, brown and black glass eyes, pronounced clipped muzzle, brown stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs and hump --25in. (63.5cm.) high, circa 1925 (worn and pads replaced)

Lot Essay

This bear was given to a six year old Austrian girl for keeping her mouth open during an operation to remove her tonsils. Included in the lot is a translation of a letter from the original owner and a photocopy of a photograph of the owner whilst young with the bear.
