A rare German teddy bear
with golden mohair, papier-mâché head with moulded ears and brows, inset white, brown and black glass eyes, black papier-mâché pointed nose, open mouth with moulded tongue and teeth, nails for canine teeth, swivel head, jointed limbs with black stitched claws, felt pads, keywind musical mechanism to side and ribbon --18½in. (47cm.) high, 1920s (musical mechanism inoperative, two pads with holes, all pads coated with varnish ?, some slight wear and worn around key)

This bear is similar to the Gebrüder Süssenguth Peter, but with fixed eyes and tongue. The sharp non-child friendly teeth, possibly indicates this is a prototype and may be a predecesor to Peter. There are also similarities to some of the American open-mouthed bears.
