Circa 1895, green printed mark, retailer's mark for PITKIN & BROOKS, LAKE & STATE ST, CHICAGO, gilt V2871
Painted by John H. Plant with a lakeside view within a shield-shaped raised gilt cartouche, signed, between yellow ground sections enclosed by raised gilt flowerhead and husk ornament, the reverse with a lesser panel similar, the richly gilt and seeded ground reserved with turquoise 'jewels' between ivory-ground sections (some rubbing to gilding and a few minor chips to 'jewelling')
8½in. (21.5cm.) high
