A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE PINK-GROUND MEDALLION BOWLS
Underglaze-blue Daoguang seal marks and of the period (1821-50)
Each with deep rounded sides and flaring rim, the exterior enamelled with four large circular panels containing various floral stems and blossoming branches issuing from rockwork, reserved on a sgraffiato pink ground with stylised lotus in the spandrels, the interiors painted with a hare drinking from a pool below a tree surrounded by various flower sprays

Daoguang bowls of this pattern are illustrated in the Ohlmer Collection Catalogue, nos. 144 and 145, in the Roemer Museum, Hildesheim; by Lee, Selected Far Eastern Art in the Yale University Art Gallery, no. 389; and by Lion-Goldschmidt, Les Poteries et Porcelaines Chinoises, pl. XXVIII (D), in the Musee Guimet. A pair in the Hong Kong Museum of Art was included in their exhibition 'The Wonders of the Potters' Palette', 1984, Catalogue no. 103
