A PARCEL GILT-BRONZE ARCHAISTIC VASE
18th Century
Of archaic zun shape with square-section body, applied with two phoenix handles and cast with key-pattern flanges rising up the corners, each side cast in shallow relief with dissolved taotie masks, archaistic animal motifs and upright leaves on a leiwen ground and embellished with areas of gilding, the rim and base inlaid in silver, the inside of the rim and the base cast with the same dedicatory inscription in archaic script, one handle reapplied

Lot Essay

The inscription reads Qin(?)fu zuo baoxu yong xian xiao zongshi, meishou zizi sunsun yong bao yong, which can be translated as 'Qin(?)fu made this precious vessel to offer to the Imperial House, longevity, forever treasured by the descendants and offspring'
