A FINE PAIR OF CELADON JADE PARFUMIERS AND STOPPERS
Qianlong (1736-95)
Each carved in medium relief and pierced, one with Shoulao riding a deer led by a young attendant through a rocky landscape below pine towards a pavilion at the peak, and additional figures bearing double gourds, the other with an Immortal and a crane walking with companions up a steep path to a similar pavilion, the pale greenish-grey jade with well employed russet inclusions and striations, each end with spinach jade two-piece screw-fit stopper incised with yinyang motifs, one with internal metal reinforcing sleeve

Lot Essay

Compare the example, also with jade stoppers rather than the more typically found stained hardwood variety, illustrated in Chinese Jade from the Collection of the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, 1989, p. 84, fig. 61. The subject is also of Immortals in a landscape.
