Each enamelled at the centre with a yellow deer between lingzhi and below a pine looking up at a crane in flight, the well with four peony cartouches reserved on an iron-red star-diaper ground, the broad everted rim with six flying cranes, the reverse with freely-enamelled flower sprays, one with a short rim hairline

Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, London, 1994, p.49 for a discussion on this service, where the author comments that the consistency in the painting of known examples suggests that they were painted over a short period. He adds that although this design is in many ways Chinese rather than Western in taste, part of this service was in the collection of Augustus the Strong at Dresden in 1721 since there are pieces with the Johanneum inventory mark. For example, a smaller dish (25cm. diam.) with Johanneumn mark N:179 is illustrated by S. Jenyns, Later Chinese Porcelain, London, 1951, pl. XXX, no. 2. A plate with similar design, but also without a Johanneum mark, is in the Hodroff Collection illustrated by Howard, ibid., no.18, p.49.
