Provenance
The overall form and classic lines of this bergere relate to the works of menusier Noël Baudin, maître 30 July 1763. Baudin established his business at rue Saint-Nicolas and rue Faubourg-Saint-Martin, and is generally more recognized for his fauteuils in the Louis XV taste. However, numerous other bergeres stamped by Baudin in the Louis XVI manner, as seen here, are recorded including a similar bergere, though less ornate, with the same arched and rounded back flanked by slightly downswept padded arms with fluted and leaf-sheathed supports above a slightly bowed seat and with turned tapering and fluted legs is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français Du XVIIIe Siècle, 1989, p.47.
