Thomas Compigné, tabletier du Roi in 1773.

Compigné specialized in charming objets de vertu such as this roundel, executed in carved, painted tortoiseshell and often depicting well-known châteaux or harbour scenes, as well as generalized pastorales, as on this example. Two roundels by Compigné, one depicting a similar river scene, were sold from the Alexander Collection, Christie's New York, 30 April 1999, lot 252 ($6,000 exc. premium).
