The series is essentially based on the famous Raphael cartoons originally designd for Pope Leo X for the Sistine Chapel in 1515 and completed by 1519. The Soho version did, however, include new and original designs, to which this panel belongs. Several sets of these tapestries are recorded, although none appear to have this particular border. Principal sets were at Boughton House, the old Court House at Hampton Court and at Bradfield (H.C. Marillier, English Tapestries of the Eighteenth Century, London, 1930, pp. 5-6). A series of eight Mortlake panels with the arms of Finch, Earls of Winchilsea and Nottingham, were sold anonymously at Christie's London, 26 March 1953, lot 86.
