In the form of a model stage coach, the central compartment with hinged cover under two padded seats, the brass interior with stamp and patent registration number Rd. 14825 (1884), two cigar-cutter lanterns and a stick holder to the front, match container to the reverse with stricker along the edge, the luggage holder acting as a match container with stricker to the interior, the door stencilled with LONDON AND BRIGHTON and OLD TIMES above, the sides with LONDON, BRIGHTON and STREATHAM, MERSTHAM, on a harness with silvered rims to the wheels
5 1/8in. (13cm.) wide, 5 7/8in. (14.6cm.), 17in. (43.2cm.) deep

Walter Thornhill and Co. are listed in the Kelly's Directory of 1890 as: 'CUTTLERS, SILVER-SMITH, DRESSING CASE, TRAVELLING BAG, WRITING CASE, AND DESK MAKER'S: SPECIALITIES, LATEST NOVELTIES FOR WEDDING PRESENTS ETC... BY APPOINTMENT TO THE QUEEN AND THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES, THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES. Established in 1734 they were based at 144 New Bond Street and at 5 & 6 Little Bruton Street, Westminster.
Two comparative humidors in the form of coaches by Thornhill were sold Christie's London, 14th November 1996, lots 1 (£13,000) and 2 (£17,000).
