The case with rock crystal body and cover carved as a fleur-de-lys, engraved gilt bezels, turned finial, cast stem with ring suspension loop, circular silver dial with Roman numerals, the centre engraved with a lute player in a landscape, gilt dial mask finely engraved with a river scene, single steel hand, gilt movement with cruciform plates, gut fusee, turned vase pillars, steel balance, pierced and engraved back plate furniture, the back plate signed Henry Gebart, case cracked, restorations

Henry Gebart (Heinrich Gebhardt) is recorded by Tardy as having been active in Strasbourg circa 1631-61. He made astronomical clocks, one of which is in the Musée de Strasbourg.
