As porcelain and 'Limoges' enamel panels were produced in the same factories in Limoges (see footnote to lot 46) it is perhaps surprising that the style of decoration used on the two types of panel did not cross over more often. On the present clock the black painted background is is strongly reminiscent of those used on enamel panels.
