A SUPERLATIVE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF EXCEPTIONAL DEPTH AND BREADTH FROM A KNOWLEDGEABLE CENTRAL COAST COLLECTOR
Upon discovering the collection of which this offering forms only a small part, Christie's specialists in Los Angeles were almost rendered speechless by the enormity of the collection which is unerring in its pursuit of quality, both in the winemakers and of the vintages.
This knowledgeable gentleman, with a passion for buying and consuming wines, has an incredible eye for the best and has caught the collecting bug. The owner of these wines is an astute connoisseur who purchased the vast majority of his wine upon commercial release over the past 20 years.
Space, in his new custom-built home cellar, is now at a premium and a little thinning was necessary to accommodate the vast portion of the collection that he retains for his own enjoyment and that of his family and friends.
The collection is strong in many areas, but it is perhaps the stunning selection of Pomerol in Bordeaux that catches the eye most. Lafleur, Le Pin, Clinet and Pétrus all line up in the highly successful vintages of the 1980s.
In Burgundy, we take a trip around the region encompassing producers and négociants large and small. Both the white and the red sections offer many wines for current drinking as well as blue chips.
Rhône's Guigal has a strong showing as well as Heitz Cellars of California, mature Port rounds off what is an exceptional private cellar of some distinction.
NYWines Christie's is honoured to bring this offering to auction, we commend this cellar to anybody wishing to add these great wines to their own cellar.

CHATEAU MARGAUX
Château Margaux--Vintage 1981
Margaux, 1er cru classé
In original wooden case
"In weight and texture, the 1981 Margaux is closest in style to the 1979. It is an outstanding wine, even in the company of the monumental wines of 1982, 1983, and 1986, although it does not have the power and weight of these vintages. Still very dark ruby/purple in color, the 1981 Margaux offers up aromas of ripe cassis fruit, spicy vanillin oakiness, and violets. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied, concentrated, tannic, and extremely long." Robert Parker, Bordeaux, Third Edition
