A Barnstaple salt glazed pottery Captain's jug, dated 1843
of bulbous form with cream and mustard yellow ground, the neck incised with Capt. Richard Strout, Port Isaac 1843, further inscribed to the handle Shay 23, 1843, the body decorated naively with scraffito, depicting various sailors, a lighthouse and vessels -- 9in. (24cm.) high
