with a shaped lunette carved toprail and gouge carved arcaded panel with twin lunette detail below and gouged uprights, the arms with panelled sides and turned front supports, the renewed seat on block and turned legs joined by stretchers, formerly with ears below the toprail -- 45½in. This chair displays the general form and detailing such as arm shape and turning profiles which are common to a number of Gloucestershire chairs. The carved linked lunettes on the lower rail are similar to those in the same position on a chair illustrated in Victor Chinnery, Oak Furniture, The British Tradition, Woodbridge, 1979, p.457, fig.4.86 and 4.87.
