The Scandinavian kasa is a form of cermonial ale drinking bowl. The horse head terminals relate back to the pre-historic sacrificial horse cult. The stylised bird heads are known as 'alegoose'. The vessels are typically carved from birch, and generally most existing examples are 18th and early 19th century.
