comprising: a steel and horn mounted fleam and mallet stick; a leather calf collar with steel prongs for anti-suckling; four variously sized cow and sheep bells; a shepherds crook -- 59in. (150cm.) high; a sheep dipper -- 59½in. (151cm.) high; a wrought iron ash mounted horse gag -- 23in. Lot Essay

Fleams were used for bleeding horses, to remove poisoned blood. This example is typical of the 19th century variety, resembling a folding penknife with three knotched blades. The mallet was used to help puncture the horse's vein with the pointed tip of the fleam blade.
