The almost zoomorphic naturalistic shape of this stool is reminiscent of the small group of shell-ended stools with crocodile legs, such as one illustrated in M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture, rev. ed., London, 1948, p. 27, fig, 37. A stool related to that one was offered in these Rooms, 12 November 1998, lot 136.
