A GEORGE II MAHOGANY COLLECTOR'S CABINET
The rectangular moulded top above a blind fretwork frieze and a pair of doors with Chinese reverse mirror-paintings, the left door depicting a seated couple with attendant in a garden, the right door with conforming seated couple and attendant below a tree, enclosing eight graduated drawers, on a stand with blind fretwork frieze, on chamfered square legs with pierced angle brackets, the George III stand altered for the present cabinet, the right door mirror painted in England and probably a replacement

Lot Essay

A similar cabinet with Chinese mirror-paintings was offered anonymously, in these Rooms, 28 June 1979, lot 122 and a further similar example was sold by David Style, Esq., Christie's house sale, Wateringbury Place, Kent, 31 May 1978, lot 293 and later sold by Dr. Norman Gay, in these Rooms, 28 June 1984, lot 31 (£23,000).
