In the manner of the Roberts family
Each with a rectangular padded seat, one covered in yellow silk-velvet, the other in worn close-nailed early 18th Century flame-stitch needlework and with the original webbing, on hipped square tapering legs with serpentine shaped square feet, one inscribed in crayon '1056' and lacking three ears, losses to the sides of the feet

This pair of stools with its distinctive leg and foot profile, relate to the two pairs of chairs from Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire (anonymous sale in these Rooms, 14 June 2001, lots 60 and 61) and the similar pair of chairs from Houghton Hall, Norfolk, sold in the Houghton sale, in these Rooms, 8 December 1994, lot 126. The Houghton pair of chairs was attributed to the Roberts family.
