Lot Essay

This painting depicts the Suitcase man seen in many of Cattapan's paintings of this period. This figure is a self portrait of the artist as-traveller, dragging all of his material and psychological baggage around with him. The Suitcase man personifies the nomadic life the artist was living in the late 80s.
