BOILLY, Louis-Léopold (1761-1845). [Les Grimaces, Paris: Delpech, 1823]. 4° (345 x 255mm.). 32 hand-coloured lithographed plates, most by Delpech after Boilly. (A few torn at margins, one torn and repaired on verso, some light marginal soiling). Contemporary half calf gilt. (Rubbed and scuffed).
Boilly, who first exhibited at the Paris salon between 1791 and 1823, published these humourous and occasionally grotesque portraits in 1823. He was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1833.
