signed on the underside of the compass box Schretege, the hour dial graduated III-XII, I-IX with folding gnomon, the latitude arc graduated 10°-90°, the octagonal horizontal plate with engraved linear and pecked decoration, the glazed compass with iron needle and brass cap, the underside engraved Eleva Poli Augsburg Paris 48 Cracau 50 Schretege, in the original shaped leather-covered card case with hook and eye (some distress to leather) -- 2 3/8in. (6cm.) wide; with an printed instruction sheet in German gothic script and in French, signed Jean Nep. Schrettegger Fabricant de boussoles de Cadran á[sic] Augsbourg, the reverse with the latitudes in degrees and minutes of very many continental cities and towns
