A Meissen silver-gilt-mounted chinoiserie bombe oval snuff-box
Circa 1735, blue crossed swords mark to interior of base, the mounts with Décharge
Painted in the manner of C.F. Herold with two groups of Oriental figures at discussion, taking tea, holding parasols and a banner among furniture and flowering shrubs, flanked by an Oriental holding a staff beside a smoking vase and with another kneeling figure beside a bowl of fruit, above elaborate gilt-panelled scroll-edged Böttger-lustre supports, the hinged cover with a similar scene of three Orientals worshipping a Pagoda on a spreading circular pedestal, the interior of the cover with an Oriental family taking tea at a panelled table flanked by furniture and flowering shrubs issuing from a fence, the underside of the base with a purpurmalerei scene of figures on a quayside (some minor rubbing to gilding and enamels on base)
