A Meissen documentary dated coffee-cup and saucer
1739, the cup with blue crossed swords mark and Pressnummer 6, the saucer with blue crossed swords mark Dresden. 17.39., both with gilder's 26.
The lower part of the cup and the underside of the saucer with radiating stiff leaves with gilt veins, painted by C.F. Herold with chinoiserie figures among flowering shrubs and fences with insects in flight above, the saucer with an Oriental family taking tea and teasing a cat, within an iron-red double concentric circle cartouche, the borders with elaborate gitterwerk (very slight wear to gilt border of cup and to gilder's mark, minute wear to rim of saucer)

A similarly inscribed and dated oviform teacaddy and cover from this service is in the collection formed by the late Lady Binning, now the property of the National Trust at Fenton House, Hampstead.

No explanation has as yet been found for this mark and date. It is probable that there was a complete service.
