A Meissen rococo armorial quatrefoil tureen and cover
Circa 1745, blue crossed swords mark
On four shell and foliage scroll-moulded feet, the lower part moulded with flutes below a band of moulded beaded strapwork divided at the centre of each side by moulded foliage scrolls painted with three sprigs of Holzschnitt Blumen, the scroll handles with shell terminals, the cover moulded with shells at each end and foliage and scroll-moulded armorial escutcheons at the sides, each painted with scattered sprigs of Holzschnitt Blumen and divided by shaped panels of diaper ornament, the finial probably modelled by J.J. Kändler and formed as an artichoke with extensive vegetable, flower and foliage terminals, within a brown line rim (slight chipping to some flowers on finial and two very slight chips to underside rim of cover)
