A pair of Meissen ornithological shell-shaped salts
Circa 1745, blue crossed swords marks
Each with a small turn-over section of the rim formed with two C-scrolls joined by a shell and issuing a pierced shell-moulded handle, the centres painted with a bird perched on a leafy branch amongst scattered insects including ants and a ladybird, with Altbrandenstein Ozier-moulded borders and gilt line rims, on three scroll feet moulded with foliage and enriched in gilding (one with minute chip to handle and small chip to rim, the other with a small chip to handle, both with some minor rubbing to gilding)
