A FINE 50-BORE VIENNESE BREECH-LOADING REPEATING AIR GUN ON THE GIRANDONI SYSTEM

With octagonal turn-off barrel inlaid with a silver band at the muzzle and silver and gold berries and foliage at the rear, secured by a threaded locking pin, and with silver fore-sight and two gold-lined maker's stamps (Neue Støckel 203, 204), the breech sleeve signed in gold and inlaid with a vase, flowers and foliage in two colours of gold, at the rear a sprung sliding rectangular loading bar and on the right a gold-inlaid cylindrical magazine, silver- and gold-inlaid rounded lock engraved with an extensive martial trophy balanced by a matching iron side-plate also inlaid with silver and gold, moulded figured walnut stock carved in relief with flowers and foliage and chequered in front of the lock, finely cast and chased gilt-brass mounts including a convex plate behind the barrel decorated in relief with the seated figure of King Aeolus in a rocky landscape, silver escutcheon, later detachable butt reservoir covered in red leather, and later iron pump (iron parts with some surface pitting, cocking lever replaced)
