AN ENGLISH BULLET CROSSBOW

With flat steel bow secured centrally at the front by a nut, later strings and bone spacers, built-in gaffle originally with hinged back-sight (now missing) released by a catch to the rear, and with indistinct signature on the flat button, sprung fore-sight, robust walnut gun-stock, and iron mounts including trigger-guard with foliate finial (iron parts with scattered surface pitting, stock perhaps a working replacement)

Lot Essay

Robert Harvey, gunmaker, was apprenticed to Henry Anthonison and turned over to John Dafte in 1691. He was free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1702, and was elected Master in 1725. He died in 1734
