With swamped three-stage sighted barrel retaining traces of engraving and of the signature at the breech, engraved grooved tang, signed rounded lock with moulded border, moulded lightly carved walnut full stock (minor chips and bruising) with raised foliate panel at the barrel tang, iron mounts, pierced and chiselled foliate side-plate, trigger-guard with first pattern acorn finial, lightly engraved spurred pommel with large chiselled grotesque mask cap, chiselled escutcheon engraved with a crest, baluster ramrod-pipes, and iron-capped ramrod (iron parts with scattered surface pitting), London proof marks

Lot Essay

John 3 White was apprenticed to Henry Crips in 1698, and free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1705. He worked in Wapping, and the last reference to him was in 1742
