A VENETIAN SCHIAVONA
Early 17th Century
With broad flat double-edged blade stamped with an 'S' on each side and with three fullers on each side of the forte, iron hilt with characteristic basket guard formed of flattened bars, two of them struck with the Venetian winged lion mark, and with inner thumb-ring and small rear quillon bent forwards, shield-shaped iron pommel with central boss on each face, and original wooden grip spirally bound with cord and retaining its original leather covering (iron parts with surface pitting)
