A FINE CASED 40-BORE FRENCH PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE

With browned octagonal sighted barrel cut with twelve grooves and signed in Gothic script on the top flat, blued sights, case-hardened patent breech engraved with scrollwork on a hatched ground and with two silver lines and pierced platinum plug, the underside struck with the barrel-forger's mark of A. Renette (Neue Støckel 8127), case-hardened tang en suite, case-hardened detented lock signed twice and engraved with scrollwork on hatched ground, case-hardened iron mounts en suite, figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, horn fore-end cap, set trigger, iron sling mounts, original brass-tipped iron ramrod, and nearly all its original finish (some surface rust, barrel-bolt bent and chipped, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons bruised): in original veneered fitted case lined in green velvet, with accessories including Hawksley powder-flask, the lid inlaid with brass and with stamped gilt signature on the lining, complete with leather travelling cover (locks defective, key-hole escutcheon, turnscrew, and one cap-box missing, minor damage to interior and to outer cover)
