A FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS

With belled brass barrel in two stages, the breech section octagonal then polygonal, signed on the top flat, engraved at the rear with overlapping foliage, and with raised ramp, plain iron tang, rounded lock engraved with foliage (some wear) and retained by three side-nails (sear and mainspring replaced), full stock (minor defects) with raised apron at the barrel tang, rounded brass butt-plate engraved with strawberry foliage and with long tang, iron-trigger-guard, single brass ramrod-pipe, and later brass-tipped ramrod with worm (iron parts with some surface pitting), London proof marks

Lot Essay

Richard 1 Dyer was apprenticed to Robert Silke, and free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1674. He was elected Master in 1700, and was contractor to Ordnance, 1680-1715, and to the Hudson's Bay Co., 1687-1701
