8° (141 x 90mm). Woodcut title border, woodcut printer's device on z8v. (Scattered light spotting and occasional browning, title trimmed at head touching border, a5 creased before printing affecting text, neatly repaired marginal hole on t1, marginal marking on z5v-z6r.) 18th-century French red crushed morocco gilt, covers with triple fillet borders, spine gilt in compartments, lettered in one, the others decorated with acorn tools, roll-tooled gilt turn-ins, gilt edges (lightly rubbed at extremities, small scuff on spine). Provenance: Bernardino [?]Pargestio, 1610 (faded inscription on title) -- Paris, Bibliothèque Mazarine (inkstamps on title and Z7v) -- Edward Davenport (bookplate on upper pastedown) -- A.L. MacLaughlin (bookplate on lower pastedown; his sale, Sotheby's Monaco, 7 October 1980, lot 1665) -- George Abrams (bookplate on front free endpaper).

'BELLE ET RARE' (Brunet). Cornazano's poem in terza rima was first published in Venice in 1493, and was followed by editions in 1507, 1515, and 1518. The present edition was probably printed by Bernardo Giunta, who inherited the business on the death of Filippo Giunta in 1517) and whose name appears at the head of the preface as 'Bernardo di Philippo di Giunta Fiorentino impressore'.
