Collation: a-z8 & \\j R8 A-C8 D6 (a1r blank, a1v author's dedicatory prologue to Ferdinand I, a2r text, D5r author's letter to Henricus Languardus, D5v letter by Parthenius to Francisus Tronus, colophon, printer's device, D6r quire register, D6v blank). 238 leaves. 57 lines, double column. Type: 5:83R, 83Greek. 3- to 9-line initial spaces, one with guide-letter. (First leaf somewhat soiled and with repaired tear and small hole affecting a few letters, some spotting and very occasional staining.) Modern polished half calf, spine lettered in gilt. Provenance: inscription crossed through on first blank leaf -- Filippo, son of Rocco (inscription on n1r recording his birth as 28 July 1588).

Fifth edition. Maius was an ardent proponent of the elegant use of Latin. His dictionary, one of the earliest Latin dictionaries to be printed, was first published in his native Naples in 1475.
