Details
A MAGNIFICENT COLLECTION OF GRAND CRU BURGUNDY FROM DOMAINE DE LA ROMANEE-CONTI, ROUSSEAU AND JAYER GILLES, AND AN ATTRACTIVE SELECTION OF BORDEAUX, MAINLY FROM THE 1994 VINTAGE
We are delighted to be able to offer a range of superb wines from the collection of one of our long-standing clients. The bulk of these wines were purchased at Christie's from 1995, just as rising prices after the early 1990s recession were tempting vendors to release fine consignments. They have been stored in professional warehousing ever since. The person behind this wine collection is a wine lover and undoubtedly a canny collector. There is a wide choice of DRC magnums and jeroboams, along with great bottles from early 1990s vintages.
There are also superb value offerings from many leading Bordeaux Châteaux from the 1990s vintages. 1993 and 1994 maybe unfashionable years but let it be remembered: by then, serious wine-making investments in the previous decade were bearing fruit. More rigorous selections were resulting in Grand Vins bottlings of far greater quality and dependability than had previously been seen. These mature-ish clarets look unbeatable value in todays's rather bloated market place for young Bordeaux. A.H.

La Tâche--Vintage 1989
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
The jeroboams and magnums not in original wooden cases
Parcel: lots 1 to 3
Tasting note: Great vintage. Several notes, most recently at a La Tâche Vertical: mature appearance; less intense than expected; a somewhat chocolaty fragrance which evolved beautifully and was spicy after six hours. Fairly sweet, full, still assertive and with piquant fruity extension. MB.
