Le Pin--Vintage 1991
Pomerol. Château-bottled
Tasting note: Not the easiest of vintages. A small crop but superb growing season which had growers anticipating another '61. Then in September the rains came. However the advantage the proprietors of the very small vineyards in Pomerol have is that they can pick speedily at the moment of optimum ripeness as opposed to the big Médoc Châteaux whose grapes are picked over an extended period, with all the risks this entails. I confess I have only one note of the '91 Le Pin, a large bottle brought by the owner, Jacques Thienpont to a dinner in Brussels in the spring of '99: remarkably deep colour, rich almost nutty, malty nose, lean but fleshy.
