16mm., the bright-nickel body concealed within an Independence Safety Match box, the top-plate with sliding focus lever marked 0.7, 0.9, 1.2, 2, 5, the side plate shutter control marked 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and engraved 598, hinged lens cover, the outer match box with internal metal plate to activate the shutter

Lot Essay

White states that this matchbox camera is of German origin. Two examples are known of which one has a fixed aperture and the other an adjustable aperture. When in use the action of pushing forward the camera within the matchbox opens the front flap, releasing the shutter and closing the flap.
