Lot Essay

The front-focusing box arrangement was suggested by the London photographer F. R Window in 1861 and remained popular throughout the 1860s. C. Jabez Hughes was listed at 379 Oxford Street as a photographic manufacturer from 1860 to 1872 after which the business was taken over by John Werge.
