Lot Essay

The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed circa 1900. It was formerly the property of Vice-Admiral Sir Donald Gibson, KCB, DSC, wartime aviator, who took part in the unsuccessful attack against the German warships Scharnhorst and Hipper in 1940. He was subsequently Officer Naval air Command 1965-68
